About simple Button

1.A small one, like a combination of a handle and a keyboard, with basic keys and a rocker that controls direction. Taking into account the eyesight and hand flexibility of the elderly, the button should be larger so that it is easier to see and press. At the same time, the spacing between the keys should be large enough to reduce the possibility of mispressing.

2.Key feedback: a combination of high saturation button backlight and sound prompts, so that the elderly can feel the confirmation of each press, avoiding repeated pressing or uncertainty about whether it has been pressed.

3.Angle adjustment: third gear angle adjustment to ensure that the keyboard angle and height adapt to different sitting positions, reducing the pressure on the wrist and back.

4.Anti-skid design: the bottom of the keyboard can be designed with anti-skid material or anti-skid pad to ensure that the keyboard is stable and non-sliding in the process of use and increase safety.

5.Keystrokes are clearly marked: use large fonts or obvious icons on the keys, and use the button backlight to ensure that these signs are clearly discernible in a dark environment.

6.Wireless link: open with one button, Bluetooth connection, reduce wiring confusion

7.Material: ABS plastic

8.Color matching: basic white and black, with high saturation button backlight

9.Size: 15cm * 10cm * 3cm

Design Description

This project is a computer game set in Naples, aimed at promoting communication between elderly and young people, alleviating the phenomenon of elderly people feeling lonely and young people staying at home. The game requires both elderly and young people to work together, and players can freely choose their characters. The main gameplay is to have elderly people wear headphones to receive information, and then convey the information to young people, who will operate and complete the task. This is not only a game, but also a journey of cultural exploration and emotional exchange.

Game character, November 7, 2024,by Runxin

Main gameplay:

  1. Collaborative puzzle solving: Before each level begins, the tour guide will provide possible clues and directions to the explorer based on the information at hand. Explorers need to use these clues to find the next clue or item in the actual scene. (Puzzle games can be designed as maze explorations or map treasure hunts)
  2. Character interaction: Players can switch between controlled characters at any time to more effectively utilize their abilities. For example, when encountering a situation where you need to communicate with NPCs to obtain information, please switch to a tour guide; When encountering physical obstacles or puzzles, switch to Explorer. Older people can not only play the role of tour guides, obtaining and transmitting information while playing games, but also exchange roles with young people and experience the role of explorers under their guidance
  3. Cultural Experience: The game incorporates many authentic Neapolitan elements, including but not limited to visiting the San Carlo Theatre, tasting authentic Margarita pizza, listening to street performers’ performances, and more. By completing specific tasks, players can receive corresponding cultural rewards, such as unlocking new music tracks, obtaining unique recipes, etc.
  4. Dynamic difficulty adjustment: Automatically adjust the game difficulty based on the player’s performance, ensuring that the game is both challenging and not frustrating.
  5. Multi ending system: Players’ choices can affect the development of the story, and different decisions may lead to different endings. This encourages players to explore all possibilities multiple times.

Map

1. Civilian Voting Square: The Civilian Voting Square on the north side of Egg Castle is the main square in the old town of Naples, named after the 1860 referendum (which decided to join the unified Kingdom of Italy under the rule of the Savoy dynasty). On the west side of the square is the Basilica di San Francesco di Paola with columns, designed in the style of the Roman Pantheon. It is a popular filming location for many local TV dramas and movies, as well as a must visit spot for photo shoots.

2. New Jesus Square: The location of the two most important churches in Naples and the starting point of the beloved Spaca Naples

3. Spaccanapoli: a straight and narrow main street that runs through the ancient historical center of Naples, Italy. This name is a popular usage, literally meaning ‘Naples Separatist’

4. Mergellina: a coastal area in Naples, Italy. It is located in the Chiaia district. It is located at the foot of Posillipo Mountain.

5. Palazzo Reale di Napoli: a historical building located in the historic center of Naples, Italy, on Piazza del Popolo

6. San Gennaromon: San Gennaromon is one of the ancient city gates of Naples, located in the southwest of the edge of Piazza Cavour, next to the busy Via Foria, leading to a pedestrian street east of Via Tama, parallel to Via Tama

7. Naples Central Station: This is an important railway station in Naples and a crucial hub for the city’s transportation.

8. Castel dell’Ovo: The oldest castle in Naples, named after the medieval legend that the Roman poet Virgil placed a magical egg in the foundation of the castle. This castle was built in the 12th century, originally on a small island, but later became a peninsula due to changes in terrain, which can be reached on foot.

9. Castel Nuovo: Walking along the seaside, you will come to the new castle that replaced the Egg Castle. Although it is called “Castel Nuovo” (transliterated as “Anjou Castle”), it is also a historical building built in the 13th century. This castle was designed by a French architect, and its most prominent exterior feature is the “five seemingly indestructible circular towers,” giving it a medieval castle vibe.

10. Naples Archaeological Museum: The Naples Archaeological Museum is very large in scale and has a rich collection. The most eye-catching and attractive to travelers are the mosaic murals of Alexander the Great chasing Darius, as well as a large number of treasures excavated from the ancient city of Pompeii. Some of the exhibits may even overturn the stereotype of modern people being more conservative towards the ancients.

11. San Carlo Theatre: As the former opera capital of Europe, Naples has the oldest opera house still in operation in the world – the San Carlo Theatre. For Italy, this is still currently the largest and most important opera house, located across from the Galleria Umberto I and performing every summer. In addition, this building, which was built in 1737 at the request of the Bourbon dynasty’s Charles, has a long history and is worth a visit in itself, especially its extremely luxurious red gold decoration, 6-story private rooms, and flower beds extending more than 30 meters behind the orchestra seats, which still amaze people today.

12. Millennium Underground City (Napoli Sotterrane): The Naples Underground City was once a Greek quarry, a Roman water storage tank, and a World War II air raid shelter. The diverse uses of various eras have allowed this underground city to be well preserved to this day.

13. Umberto I Gallery: The Umberto I Gallery, built in 1887, is located on the north side of the palace and is as famous as the Emmanuel II Gallery in Milan. Unlike Milan, which is full of boutique shops and crowded with tourists, the Umberto I Gallery is mostly filled with cafes, fashion and souvenir shops. Even during the peak summer tourist season, the atmosphere is still relaxed and comfortable.

14.Mount Vesuvius: Mount Vesuvius is not only an active volcano, but also an important tourist destination. Tourists can climb the volcano on foot, overlooking the magnificent scenery of the Bay of Naples, while experiencing the powerful forces of nature and the profound sedimentation of history.

Naples is also known for the following attractions:

Culinary culture, (pizza, pasta, Italian pancakes, fried pizza, scazzoppoli…)

Art and monuments (Cristovirato, Cavalli di Bronzo, Albergo di Boveri…)

Music culture (Pino Daniele was the world’s first Neapolitan).

8.Character Encounter Story: In the grand hall of the Naples Palace, sunlight shines through the high windows onto the ancient marble floor, and the air is filled with the atmosphere of history. Arya, a brave explorer, stood in front of a mural depicting the history of Naples, with a furrowed brow and a tightly held mysterious manuscript in her hand. Her eyes flickered with a longing for the unknown and a passion for adventure. At this moment, Marco, a knowledgeable local tour guide, wearing his iconic brown leather boots and a slightly worn hat, was leading a group of tourists through the hall. His voice was loud and infectious, telling the history of the palace and the legends of Naples. When his gaze accidentally fell on Arya, he immediately felt her unique temperament. Marco finished his explanation to the tourists and walked gently over to Arya, speaking fluently in English, “Miss, you seem particularly interested in this mural. I can provide you with some additional information.” Arya turned around, her eyes sparkling with curiosity and vigilance. She looked at Marco and politely replied, “Thank you, I am very interested in the history of Naples, especially the legends about Renaissance treasures.” Marco’s eyes lit up as he realized that the lady in front of him was not an ordinary tourist. He whispered, ‘The legend of the treasure? It’s a complex story. However, I may know some secrets that are not known to outsiders.’ Arya’s heart raced as she knew it might be the key to her search for the treasure. She approached Marco and responded in a low voice, ‘I am looking for some clues. If you can help me, I am willing to pay you the corresponding reward.’ Marco smiled, knowing that this encounter could be the beginning of the most exciting adventure of his life. He reached out his hand and said, “So, let’s start this journey. My name is Marco, and you?” Alia held his hand and said firmly, “Arya. Nice to meet you, Marco. Let’s uncover Naples’ deepest secrets together

9.Tip: Solid color background+text narration (And so, in the ancient hall of the Naples Palace, the adventure of the two protagonists begins. They don’t know how many challenges and dangers await them ahead, but they both know that this will be an unforgettable journey.)

10.Main storyline progression: Marco leads Arya through the palace’s corridors and arrives at a hidden library. Here, they discovered an ancient diary that recorded clues to the treasure. The diary mentions four symbolic locations: the statue of Neptune, the sea god, the mysterious paintings at the San Severo Gallery, the underground labyrinth of Egg Castle, and a forgotten monastery, among others.
They went to the statue of Neptune, the sea god, which is one of Naples’ iconic buildings. On the pedestal of the statue, they discovered a movable slate with an ancient map hidden underneath. The path to the next clue is marked on the map.
They arrived at the San Severo Art Museum, which houses countless masterpieces from the Renaissance period. Behind a seemingly ordinary painting, they found a second clue – a poem written in Latin that led them to Egg Castle.
Egg Fortress, built in ancient times, is famous for its complex underground maze. Marco and Arya shuttled through the maze and finally found a third clue in a hidden chamber – a stone slab engraved with a mysterious symbol.
They arrived at the forgotten monastery. Here, they pieced together all the clues and discovered an astonishing secret: the treasure was not underground in Naples, but hidden beneath the altar of an ancient church. This church is the holy land in the hearts of the people of Naples, and its existence is even longer than the history of treasures.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,.

After a series of challenges and puzzles, Marco and Arya finally uncovered the secrets in ancient manuscripts, found clues hidden throughout Naples, and ultimately revealed the location of the treasure. Their adventure not only brought them wealth, but more importantly, they uncovered a forgotten history and added new legends to Naples. And this city, due to their adventure, has once again become the focus of attention for the world.

Points for attention

  • Clarity and conciseness of information transmission
  • Friendliness of interface and operation
  • Suitability of task difficulty
  • Interaction and Feedback
  • Health and safety considerations

Clarity and conciseness of information transmission

  • Voice clarity: Ensure that the information transmitted through the headphones is clear and easy to understand, with a moderate pace of speech, avoiding too fast a pace or complex accents that may make it difficult for the elderly to understand.
  • Information conciseness: The information conveyed to the elderly should be concise and clear, avoiding lengthy or complex descriptions. The description of each task or clue should directly point out the key points and reduce unnecessary details.
  • Repetition and Confirmation: Allow elderly people to listen to information repeatedly as needed, or set up confirmation mechanisms to ensure they fully understand task requirements

Friendliness of interface and operation

  • Concise interface: The game interface should be designed to be concise and clear, avoiding too many icons or complex menus to prevent confusion for the elderly when operated by young people.
  • Adaptive adjustment: Allow elderly people to adjust headphone volume, screen brightness, and other settings according to their hearing or vision conditions, ensuring that they can comfortably participate in games.

Suitability of task difficulty

  • Progressive Difficulty: Game tasks should gradually progress from simple to complex, allowing both the elderly and young to have enough time to adapt to each other’s cooperation styles, while gradually challenging their intelligence and teamwork abilities.
  • Cultural relevance: Task design should be tailored to the life experiences and cultural backgrounds of older adults, making it easier for them to understand and participate. For example, puzzles related to Neapolitan history or cultural events familiar to the elderly can be designed.
  • Fault tolerance mechanism: Provide sufficient fault tolerance space for the elderly, allowing them to make small mistakes when providing information, and set up prompt or help mechanisms to help them correct their mistakes and continue playing.

Interaction and Feedback

  • Instant feedback: When the information provided by the elderly is correctly applied, provide immediate positive feedback, such as sound prompts or reward animations on the screen, to enhance their sense of participation and achievement.
  • Team collaboration showcase: During the game, regularly showcase the results of team collaboration, such as solved puzzles, found clues, etc., to make the elderly feel their contribution and value.

Health and safety considerations

  • Rest reminder: Considering the physical condition of the elderly, reasonable rest reminders should be set up in games to avoid prolonged and continuous gaming leading to physical fatigue.

Questions posted

Hello, members of Team 20! We have read the additional content you provided and have a general understanding of Neapolitan culture.
Can you send some pictures of Naples’ characteristic buildings so that we can better create the scenes in the game?
In addition, you mentioned a game that can be referenced in the supplementary content, “Octave Traveler”. Can you explain the gameplay and features of this game.

thank you very much!

Our views on seniors game project

The project is to design an electronic game aimed at promoting communication between the elderly and young people, reducing the phenomenon of “loneliness” among the elderly and “otaku” among young people. In this game, elderly and young people play different roles and have different tasks. The background of the game is based on Neapolitan and Campanian culture, with elderly people playing the role of “storytellers” reading the game manual and solving level characters, while young people acting as “operators” undertake in-game tasks. At the same time, this game is equipped with physical devices similar to headphones for the elderly to transmit information.

This game allows both the elderly and young people to play their respective roles and work together, promoting communication between the two and effectively alleviating the loneliness of the elderly and the “concealment” phenomenon of the young. The design is very clever, but without physical products as carriers, we don’t know how to complete this design. We don’t have much knowledge about the design of electronic games and don’t know how to design a game. In the past, we used to design based on physical products. What form do you expect the final design outcome to be presented in? Can you provide a specific description?
