Breakfast Storage Design Inspired by Turkish Breakfast Culture
Project Overview:The Turkish breakfast, or “kahvaltı,” is not merely a meal but a cherished daily ritual deeply rooted in cultural diversity and culinary richness. It is a gathering around a table filled with a variety of flavors and textures, ranging from fresh vegetables, savory cheeses, salça (tomato paste with herbs) and olives to sweet jams, honey, and pastries. This project seeks to harness the essence of Turkish breakfast by developing a “breakfast storage” solution that complements this vibrant tradition. The design will prioritize preserving freshness and facilitating easy reuse of these various food items, helping users maintain the richness of the experience without waste or clutter.Project Aim:The primary aim is to design a storage solution that celebrates the beauty of Turkish breakfast by preserving its delicacies, extending their freshness, and enhancing the overall aesthetic and functional experience. This product will capture the joy of sharing food at a breakfast table and cater to the needs of families and individuals who value variety, freshness, and organization in their breakfast routines. Additionally, it will incorporate modern design principles with a nod to Turkish tradition, balancing functionality and cultural heritage.Project Objectives:Cultural Representation: Design a storage solution that reflects the uniqueness of Turkish breakfast culture, combining modern design aesthetics with traditional elements.Food Preservation and Organization: The storage unit should be compartmentalized to keep various Turkish breakfast foods fresh, organized, and easily accessible, encouraging both daily use and sustainable food habits.Reusability and Sustainability: The product must facilitate reusability by allowing users to store leftover breakfast items, ensuring they remain fresh until the next meal. It should be made from eco-friendly, durable materials.Aesthetic and Ergonomic Design: Create an ergonomic, visually appealing product that complements the breakfast table and blends into modern kitchens. The design should be easy to handle, clean, and store.Target User:Demographics: The design is aimed at households that enjoy leisurely breakfasts, large families who prepare a variety of dishes for breakfast, and individuals or small households that appreciate the variety and richness of a Turkish breakfast spread.User Profile:Ayşe (68) and Mustafa (72) – Retired GrandparentsLifestyle: Traditional and family-oriented; cherish weekend breakfasts with family, sourcing local fresh ingredients.Needs: Easy access to multiple items, ergonomic for Mehmet’s arthritis, keeps food fresh for longer.Preferences: Lightweight and organized design to reduce clutter and waste. Activities Users Like/Dislike and Why:Liked Activities:Variety in Breakfast: Users enjoy the variety of items served during a Turkish breakfast, from cheeses to jams, which makes the experience diverse and satisfying.Freshness of Food: Users value the freshness of breakfast items, especially when it comes to perishable foods like cheeses and vegetables.Convenience in Preparation: Many users enjoy being able to organize and quickly access food items for the next day’s breakfast, reducing the hassle of re-preparation.Disliked Activities:Food Waste: Users dislike when breakfast leftovers go bad or lose their freshness, particularly in the case of cheese or vegetables that aren’t properly stored.Messy and Cluttered Table: Users dislike the clutter that can occur when a variety of dishes and containers are spread across the table.Non-Sustainable Packaging: Single-use plastic or other non-reusable containers are…
A way to take chimarrão wherever you go – inspired by the culture of Rio Grande do Sul
Project Overview "Chimarrão" is a very important part of the culture of Rio Grande do Sul, the southern state of Brazil. It's a bitter drink that consists of boiling water mixed with hot maté tea, and it's called "erva mate" in the state, it's also known as just "mate". The drinking of chimarrão is like a rite in itself for the people who live in Rio Grande do Sul, it's often shared between friends and family in between gatherings or it's merely appreciated by a single person in moments of relaxation. The problem is that chimarrão is not a simple drink that one can carry inside a bottle and drink from anywhere, the containers are also part of what makes the drink special. Chimarrão is drunk from a "cuia" through a metallic straw called "bomba", the mate powder stays in the cuia while the boiling water stays in a different place, a bottle that keeps it warm and ready to be poured into the cuia. The problem is - carrying all that, the cuia, the bottle, and all the specific things that are involved in drinking chimarrão, can be quite troublesome. If the person goes to the park with their bike, for example, they might find it hard to carry everything, and since drinking chimarrão is one of the highlights of the life in Rio Grande do Sul, this idea came out of a wish to make those moments simpler. Project Aim This project aims to create a product that can make the experience of drinking chimarrão more "compact" while preserving the drink and the way it's consumed, how can it be taken on trips without a big heavy bag? The product mustn't erase any aspect of the culture of Rio Grande do Sul, such as changing the drink in any way or getting rid of aspects like the bomba or the cuia, but those can and are encouraged to be redesigned in a way that makes them easier to carry around. Another important aspect is the material that the product is created, it has to be resistant and lasting since chimarrão is a boiling hot drink, but the fabrication of it mustn't have negative impacts on the environment. Project Objectives Cultural Celebration: The design of the product must exist to make the act of sharing and consuming chimarrão even easier.Ergonomics, accessibility, and aesthetics: It should be functional in a way that anyone could use it in any situation, like carrying it while walking, while inside a vehicle, while riding a bike, or anything like the sort. Tradition is very important to the people of Rio Grande do Sul, so it's encouraged that the aesthetic of the product also follow that path. Users The design is aimed at people who make drinking chimarrão a part of their everyday life, who bring it to gatherings and events to share with their loved ones or on walks by themselves. Delivery and presentation For the activities required from the group, the first moment…

Dulce Maria Mielczarski 🍓
Hello! My name is Dulce Maria Mielczarski, I'm 20 years old and I'm a Visual Design student at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. You guys might be confused about where our uni is located, so I'll explain in a few words - we study in the city of Porto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. Rio Grande do Sul is the southernmost state of Brazil! I was born in Porto Alegre on February 7th but I've never lived there, my hometown is a neighboring city called Canoas (which means canoes in Portuguese!). I've always loved Canoas, and now that I am studying in the capital, I love it even more, I guess I don't do very well in big, busy cities and my city can be beautiful in its own way. 𖧷₊˚˖𓍢ִ🍓✧˚.🎀༘⋆゚* I love art and always have, but my main area of interest is illustration, my dream is to be an illustrator after I get my degree, and I'd like to work with comics, animation, or concept arts! I've been drawing for a good few years now but I'm still shy of posting my art on my socials, I'm working on my confidence! I'll leave some of my illustrations here for you guys to see! I take a lot of inspiration from the media I consume, one of my biggest inspirations is Tove Jansson, she created The Moomins! 𖧷₊˚˖𓍢ִ🍓✧˚.🎀༘⋆゚* I love cute things, and I like to think it's fitting for my name since it means "sweet" in Spanish. I mainly collect earrings, dolls, and lip glosses, but I prefer the ones with glitter! I like colorful clothes and makeup as well! I don't think I own a single black shirt, lol. I like to build my style with a mix of things that I enjoy, and bonus points if it has strawberries! I love strawberries, not just the taste of the fruit, but esthetically too, they're part of my day every day, in my shampoo, perfume, my phone case, my moisturizer, and so on! I'll show you guys my newest makeup items and the doll I bought recently! 𖧷₊˚˖𓍢ִ🍓✧˚.🎀༘⋆゚* About my hobbies, I'll first talk about music! I'm not the type of person who only listens to one genre but I do have my favorites, Indie Rock and Folk! My favorite singer of all time is Hozier, his songs really speak to my heart, I love the way he writes about love, loss and really anything, I think he's a genius when it comes to songwriting (and a very handsome man too!!💝) 𖧷₊˚˖𓍢ִ🍓✧˚.🎀༘⋆゚* I loooove video games! I own a Nintendo Switch that is very precious to me, my favorite game of all time is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild and the Kirby franchise, but the one I'm currently playing the most is Stardew Valley, I have more than 600 hours of gameplay! Do you guys know this game? It's a farming lifestyle game, you build your farm and a…
