This wearable technology concept is made to help elderly people in Naples with Alzheimer’s by providing memory support and safety features in a simple design. The main part is a multimedia smartwatch that is easy to use, allowing users to see photos and videos that remind them of past memories, listen to the radio, and press an SOS button in emergencies. There is also a small scent device that can be attached to a collar, which releases familiar smells to help users remember, while also having GPS tracking so families can know their location. Another part is a sensor device that can attach to personal items like a cane, with a camera and sensors to detect risks and send alerts to users or caregivers. these three devices create a helpful system that supports independence and safety, specially made for people with Alzheimer’s. This Idea is related to the later stages of Alzheimer's when the patient has lost the ability to complete their daily life tasks; at this stage, the design was focused on making the life of the caretakers easier. The idea includes a chair that is convertible to fit different needs. It can bend from the hinge, making it easier to transfer the patient to and from their beds. The center of the seat is removable so that taking the patient to the bathroom would be easier. There is a pedal that opens wheels and gives leverage in order to move the chair more easily and also, make it easier to place the chair onto the toilet. The third idea focuses on allowing and encouraging the patient to complete their daily tasks on their own. This will help them delay the effects of the disease while monitoring them to make sure they are successfully completing the tasks. The design consists of a board that sends everything written on it to another screen, making it easy to monitor the patient. There will be times of the day written on the board and the patient will write what they did onto the board on the corresponding slot. If anything is missed or they forgot to write anything at all, the caretakers can contact the patient and check on them. There is a shelf at the bottom that holds markers to write, an emergency button to contact the caretakers, a speaker and microphone, timer screen- so that the patient or caretakers can set…
Initial Ideas – Zeelaf Siraj
Hello! I hope you guys are doing well. I came with 3 different design ideas for your brief. My ideas are mostly inspired by games and friendly activities that are used in therapy for the elderly with Alzheimers. Please find them below and let me know of your thoughts! :) Design Idea 1: I researched the character “Pulcinella”, which seemed to be a very popular character in your country and also popular with your elderly. I made some form explorations as you can see below and came up with a product called the ‘Pulcino’ Robot. The Pulcino Robot is a friendly companion robot designed to support Italian seniors with Alzheimer’s by helping them stay connected to their culture and memories. Inspired by the Italian character Pulcinella, the robot has a gentle, approachable design with rounded features and a friendly “face” that smiles and interacts. Pulcino engages seniors through sensory activities, such as showing familiar images of Italy, playing traditional Italian songs, food games, and even releasing scents like basil or rosemary. Seniors can talk with Pulcino about family, memories, or everyday routines, while it assists with gentle reminders for activities and social interaction, making it a comforting and engaging presence in their day-to-day life. Design Idea 2: “Festival In a Box” is a monthly subscription kit/activity kit that brings traditional Italian festivals and celebrations to seniors’ homes, sparking memories and connecting them with Italian culture. Each box focuses on a specific Italian festival, like Carnevale or Pasqua (Easter), and includes items like small decorations, and cubes that have different characteristics like traditional Italian games, scents, music, etc. I was thinking of adding sensory items, such as sachets with familiar Italian scents, and an audio playlist with Italian folk music or festival sounds. Seniors and caregivers can explore the box together, decorating, listening, or tasting, making the experience both sensory-rich and memory-evoking. Each box is designed to be simple, joyful, and filled with Italian cultural elements. Design Idea 3: “Taste of Italy” Memory Teacups are ceramic teacups designed to bring back memories of Italian flavours and scents for seniors with Alzheimer’s. Each teacup has a unique Italian aroma, like espresso, oregano, or basil, which activates when hot water is poured in. The aroma is embedded in a detachable, scent-infused disc that sits at the bottom of the cup. As the water warms the disc, it gradually releases the fragrance, creating a comforting sensory experience. The cups can also be decorated with traditional Italian patterns and symbols, giving them a warm, nostalgic feel. This design combines taste, smell, and touch, allowing seniors to enjoy the familiar aromas of Italy in a relaxing, memory-rich experience. I hope my explanations and sketches are clear. These are very basic ideas, but if you’d like any further explanation or refinement, please let us know! :)
Inıtial Idea 1
Design a large, interactive wall installation made of felt and soft Velcro, where participants can create and customize their own personal "memory map" of Naples. This tactile wall allows seniors to combine various elements, enhancing engagement and interactivity. A felt map of Naples would serve as the centerpiece, surrounded by Velcro-backed images and icons. Participants can add photos of loved ones, favorite locations around Naples, and key ingredients from iconic dishes. By moving these elements around or adding new ones, they can actively recall cherished memories, revisit important places, and engage with familiar cultural symbols. This self-directed activity fosters memory retention and allows participants to reconnect with their personal histories in an engaging and dignified way, encouraging ongoing cognitive and social stimulation.
Client Project Brief: “Gün Serving Unit” Design for Turkish Gatherings
The 'Gün' is a type of gathering that has been part of Turkish culture for a very long time. Relatives, neighbors, and friends get together once a month to eat, drink tea, and chat. In addition to socializing, the Gün also serves as a bank. Each month, guests bring an initial amount of money or gold to the host, and the day ends when everyone has received their money back, that is, once everyone has become a host. For our project, we are seeking to design a "Gün Serving Unit" that accommodates the unique needs of these gatherings. The unit should be designed to comfortably hold large quantities of food, platters, tea sets, and other essentials used in a traditional Gün. It should also be easy for the host to manage while showcasing the dishes in a way that enhances the cultural experience. The Gün Serving Unit should not only serve as a functional tool for organizing Turkish gatherings but also act as a symbol of the cultural value placed on hospitality, food, and community bonding. Aim: To create a culturally relevant and functional Gün Serving Unit that meets the needs of these gatherings. This unit should celebrate Turkish traditions while providing a practical solution for hosts who need a dedicated space to display their dishes, tea services, and other dining essentials. Objective: To design a compact, space-efficient unit that is easy for elderly hosts to manage. It must hold and display large quantities of traditional Turkish dishes, with features that make serving and access to dishes easy. Intended Users: Turkish households that frequently host Gün gatherings, with a special focus on women aged 50+, who are mostly grandparents. Target Market: Elderly women (50+): These are the primary hosts, often grandmothers, who maintain the tradition and regularly host family, friends, and neighbors. They need a functional, easy-to-manage serving unit that enhances their role as the center of these gatherings. Elderly living with their families: In multi-generational households, elderly hosts may take pride in organizing Gün gatherings. A thoughtfully designed unit can help them manage hosting duties more easily, enhancing their sense of contribution and social connection. Elderly couples: Couples who host Gün gatherings as a shared activity can benefit from a serving unit that simplifies the process, making it easier to handle large quantities of food and drinks while spending time with their guests. Elderly individuals seeking social interaction: For elderly people who may live alone or have limited opportunities for socializing, Gün gatherings serve as a crucial way to connect with others. A serving unit designed with ease of use in mind can make hosting more inviting and accessible for them. Problem Definition: We are seeking the design of a versatile Gün serving unit that addresses the challenges faced by hosts during these traditional gatherings. The unit should streamline the essential tasks of preparing, serving, and organizing food, as well as accommodating guests comfortably and assisting with the post-event cleanup. From managing limited space to efficiently handling leftovers, the…

Hello to all, My name is Annamaria, I am 22 years old and I am a student of psychology at the University Suor Orsola Benincasa, within cognitive ergonomics. Although I am a very private person, I love being with others, I consider myself an empathetic person and a good listener, always ready to offer support or simply pay attention to those around me. I like to understand the inner world of people, and I believe that this sensitivity is one of my strengths. I deeply love animals, especially dogs, which for me are an inexhaustible source of affection and companionship. Another great passion of mine are tattoos: I have many, and each one has a special meaning, representing moments, experiences or memories that I always carry with me. In my free time, one of the things I’m most excited about is listening to true crime podcasts. This interest led me to develop the desire to work in the future in forensic criminology. I want to talk about myself
Il mio cantante preferito è l'italiano Marco Mengoni. domenico.cimmino@studenti.unisob.na.it domenico cimmino matricola 1760010
Self Presentation
Hi everyone! I'm Fabio Grillo, I'm 25, and I live in Naples, even though I was born in Sassari, Sardinia. I'm astudent of Cognitive Ergonomics at the Suor Orsola University, and this is myfirst year both in this town, and at this university. I'd like to introduce myself starting with my three main passions, the first is the one thing that makes my life truly significant, my dog Cesare. He has been my companion from more than seven years and, even though I haven't been able to take him with me here, in Naples, I'm planning to do so as soon as possible. My second main reason of life are Anime and Videogames, they're so important for me that I usually present myself as a Gamer however, now that I'm busier than I used to be, I can't play them as much as I truly want. This is where I used to play back in the days, I've spent so much time there playing RPG and action games... My third and final major passion is learning about cognitive sciences and how the brain works, more precisely, how his structure and organization, influence the cognitive and psychological behaviours of human beings. The ultimate goal of my life would be to be able to replicate some of the most important brain circuits and integrate them into AI. I'm looking forward to elaborate a meaningful project with my team, our goal is to provide elderly people with some help during their daily routine. Hope I've been able to present myself adequately. Please contact me, I'm available for everyone who wishes to collaborate with me. Instagram: fabio_grillo99 Email: fabiogrillo9999@gmail.com

I have two passions: true crime (I love watching and reading true crime series and discuss of them with my friends) and backing. Even if I like to study with music or a movie/sitcom in background, as "Friends" or "How I Met Your Mother", I don't have a favorite genre. I can't wait to work on this project, especially because it allows me to broaden my horizons and provides the opportunity to make new friendships.
