Project Overview: the project aim is to create an organised system and/or product for planning “Gün” events, managing food responsibilities, and facilitating easy financial contributions (cash, gold, etc.) for the “Gün” component. Additionally, the project will explore the possibility of cross-support between different “Gün” groups to increase participation and engagement. Our proposal: to organize a fun yet waste-free event, we have come up with two proposals: a board game that will help organize the event and entertain the guests during it, and a box for each participant so that everyone can take home any leftover food, ensuring that it doesn't go to waste. Gün game Objective: making the Gün a moment of sharing and fun, highlighting the contribution of each participant through recipes, anecdotes, and convivial activities.Materials Needed -Role Cards (one for each participant)- Menu Cards (with Turkish dishes and optional culinary challenges)- Extra Activity Cards (conversation questions, riddles, and light games) - Recipe Sheet (to write and share your creations) - Symbolic Prizes (such as best dessert, most original dish, etc.)Preparing the Game(Meeting before the GÜN)1. As clients: We asked them to create a printable version of the flyer outlining the workshop program on gardening between elderly and students We asked them to be more specific about what will be planted during the gardening activity We asked them to create a visual identity (a logo) for the gardening activity We asked them to illustrate all the workshop programs in addition to the gardening one They had some questions about the nursing homes for the elderly, the roles of local governments, how these work and if these are active only in big cities or in rural areas too They asked about the elderly daily life, where they go, what activities they do in the nursing homes, to understand how they can reach them  They clarified some questions like: what are the school hours, when students go and leave, when the lessons are, etc. As designers: They gave us some critics about the Gün game idea about the role cards and we clarified these. They asked us a printable version of cards to send to them via pdf There were some problems with the role cards: these should be better designed because some roles are already determined by the event, like the Gün host is the master chef and he prepares the main foods, so there shouldn't be a "head chef" card or a "main foods" card.

As clients: We looked at their proposals, and we liked "Local Workshop: From Grandparents to the Young" and "Ghost Writers to Conserve Napoli Culture" For the "Local Workshop" idea, we really appreciated the fact that the elderly could engage in activities with young people in such a way as to pass down their experiences For the "Ghost Writers" idea, we particularly liked the collection "Voices of Napoli", so that the elderly could share their stories and carry forward Neapolitan culture At the end, we had agreed to arrange another video call since they had questions and wanted to delve deeper into Neapolitan culture, and we were waiting for a message from them to schedule it. On November 13, during the next lesson with our professor, we decided to change our approach: she suggested us that we take three of their ideas ("Elderly in Kindergarten", "Local Workshop" and "Garden of Generations") and merge them into a single topic. To assist them in their work and clarify our proposal, we prepared a document (attached below) that we shared with them in our WhatsApp group at 11:22 AM on the same date. In the end, we did not receive any response regarding this. But for the reward, there can be category awards like best dessert, best soup, etc.-At gün, people like to talk about their recipes, and the game can cover these recipe-sharing activities For the Box Idea: -At the end of Gün (sometimes even before, the host prepares food for takeaway), people are taking some of the foods to their homes for their families. This box idea meets this situation well. -They need answers to questions about how they get food and who gets food.

Preparation of Extra Activity Cards: The extra activity cards are optional and are used to add games or conversations during breaks. These may include questions like 'What is your childhood memory related to cooking?' or 'Describe a special ingredient you love to use.'Start of the Game The organizer introduces the event and explains the rules. The participants reveal their role and show the dish or menu card they have drawn. The master chef begins the presentation with the main dish.Dish Presentation Turns One by one, the participants present their dishes, explaining the preparation and completing the challenges included in the menu cards. After each presentation, all players vote for each participant from 1 to 5 stars: TASTE, PRESENTATION, AND CREATIVITY (the vote is anonymous). The organizer collects and records the points on a sheet of paper or a whiteboard.Extra Activities and Conversation During the event, the Traditions Expert and the Storyteller can introduce stories or challenges from the extra activity cards, such as ingredient riddles, cultural questions, or mini-games. The player with the most stars is declared the Winner of the Gün and receives a small prize, chosen by the group. Project Title: Coordinated Social "Gün" Gathering Background: "Gün" is a long-standing tradition in Turkey where friends, neighbours, and relatives come together to socialize, share food, and create lasting bonds. The Origins of GÜN: This tradition has roots in Turkish social customs as a way to build economic support networks. GÜN gatherings serve as informal “savings clubs,” an approach seen in many cultures worldwide. In Turkey, it has evolved particularly among women as a way to maintain close social ties while offering financial aid to each other in a structured but friendly environment​. Dynamics of Creating a GÜN Group: Members are often friends, relatives, or neighbours who join a rotating savings and credit association (ROSCA) setup, much like similar groups in cultures across Africa, Latin America, and Asia. They gather at each member’s home on a rotating basis to pool funds, which are given to one member each time, providing each participant with a substantial sum periodically​. Participation and Exclusivity: GÜN traditionally includes women, as they are seen as a safe, trusted space for sharing personal stories, exchanging advice, and strengthening social bonds. This exclusivity reinforces trust, a crucial element for the financial exchange involved. For example, my mother has a GÜN group with her high school friends. Participant Limit: Practical limitations generally keep groups small, though this varies widely depending on the community and purpose of the group. Some GÜN groups might include only five to ten people, while others could be larger, depending on trust levels and logistical factors like hosting space​. People have been known to borrow chairs from neighbours when they have a big GÜN group. Host Selection: Hosting duties rotate among members, ensuring each has an equal role and opportunity to host and be celebrated in their home. The rotation fosters a sense of equality and accountability, as each participant knows their turn will come​. Sometimes GÜN goers may have special occasions that disrupt the GÜN host list. In these cases, the GÜN group can grant them a chance to conduct the GÜN session they’re hosting later or sooner than planned.   Budget Decisions: For example, in a group of 10 participants, if each person contributes 1 gram of gold per “Gün,” you will visit the homes of the other 9 participants and give them a total of 9 grams of gold throughout the cycle. When it’s your turn to host, you receive 9 grams of gold from the others. While it may seem like everyone is giving and receiving the same amount, the key is that you gather a lump sum instantly when hosting, but you pay it back gradually over time. Also, this often is one of the sole socialisation opportunities for the elderly to meet with people outside of their families. Some old people don’t wanna get out of their homes but in this “gün” event, they have to socialize and see other people. This project aims to structure and enhance the organisation of these events, making them more efficient and inclusive with support from different "Gün" groups. Our team name is Zig Zag, so our logo is inspired by it.We chose Zig Zag because it is an international onomatopoeic sound, so it is recognizable and understandable in every language.Also, Zig Zag represents a non-linear path like the communication and design world is.The "zigzag" term can be referred to various things, according to the context. There are some possible interpretations:• "Movement": a journey or a movement that alternates between opposite directions, creating sharp angles;• "Design and Fashion": a decorative pattern characterized by lines that alternate between sharp angles, often used in textiles, wallpaper or works of art;• "Sewing technique": a zigzag stitch used to trim fabric edges or create decorative effects;• "Game or Sport": it can be referred to a type of exercise or training, like a zigzag path between cones in a run;• "Analogy": it can be used to describe a process or a thought that doesn't follow a straight line, but it moves through different directions.The zipper represents an opening to a new way of thinking, the way out from the schemes. So the zigzag path leads to innovative solutions.
