Final Design Proposal Team 21

Project Overview: the project aim is to create an organised system and/or product for planning “Gün” events, managing food responsibilities, and facilitating easy financial contributions (cash, gold, etc.) for the “Gün” component. Additionally, the project will explore the possibility of cross-support between different “Gün” groups to increase participation and engagement.

Our proposal: to organize a fun yet waste-free event, we have come up with two proposals: a board game that will help organize the event and entertain the guests during it, and a box for each participant so that everyone can take home any leftover food, ensuring that it doesn’t go to waste.

Gün game

Objective: making the Gün a moment of sharing and fun, highlighting the contribution of each participant through recipes, anecdotes, and convivial activities.
Materials Needed
-Role Cards (one for each participant)
– Menu Cards (with Turkish dishes and optional culinary challenges)
– Extra Activity Cards (conversation questions, riddles, and light games)
– Recipe Sheet (to write and share your creations)
– Symbolic Prizes (such as best dessert, most original dish, etc.)
Preparing the Game
(Meeting before the GÜN)
1. Distribute Role Cards
Each participant draws a role card representing their special contribution during the event. Examples of roles:
– Organizer: coordinates the meeting and ensures everything runs smoothly.
– Tradition Expert: shares stories or interesting facts about Turkish culture and traditional dishes.
– Narrator: introduces games, questions, and conversations to keep the atmosphere lively.
– Gün Photographer: captures the best moments with photos or videos.
2. Distribute Menu Cards
Each participant draws a menu card with instructions for a dish to prepare. Each card includes:
– Dish name (e.g., baklava, mercimek çorbası).
– An optional challenge, such as:
. “Tell a story related to this dish.”
. “Personalize the recipe with your own touch.”
3. Prepare Extra Activity Cards
Extra activity cards are designed to add interactive moments, such as:
– “Share a memory related to cooking.”
– “Describe your favorite secret ingredient.”
4. Recipe Sheet
Provide a sheet to collect and write down the shared recipes, which will be distributed to participants as a memento of the event.
Game Play
Starting the GÜN
– The organizer introduces the event, explains the schedule, and presents the roles.
– Each participant introduces their role and shows the dish they’ve prepared, sharing any personal stories or details related to the recipe.
Sharing and Conversation
– During the meal, participants talk about their recipes and explain the preparation steps.
– The Tradition Expert and the Narrator propose challenges and questions from the extra activity cards to keep the conversation flowing.
Symbolic Award Ceremony
– At the end of the meal, all participants discuss and choose categories to reward special contributions, such as:
. Best dessert
. Most original dish
. Most interesting story related to a recipe
– The prizes are symbolic and can include small tokens like a traditional spice, a kitchen decoration, or a Turkish sweet.
Benefits of the New Format
– Collaboration: the absence of competition fosters an atmosphere of sharing and harmony.
– Recipes and Stories: recipes take center stage, with space for personal details and anecdotes.
– Inclusivity: the light and convivial activities respect the participants’ sensitivities.

Gün Box

During each Gün, it is a tradition to share not only moments of togetherness but also the delights that are prepared. Sometimes, even before the end of the event, the host prepares take-out portions for the participants, allowing them to bring food home to their families.
The Gün Box was created to make this tradition even simpler, more organized, and special.
“What is it for?”
– Reduces food waste: by saving unused food, we can together make an ecological and sustainable choice.
– Preserves the flavors: the special dishes of the GÜN can be enjoyed the next day, turning the day into an even more lasting memory.
– A gift for the family: the GÜN Box allows participants to share the treats with those who couldn’t attend the event, bringing the atmosphere of the
Gün into their homes.
How does it work?
– Before the end of the Gün:
. The Organizer coordinates the distribution of food, asking participants if they would like a GÜN Box.
. Those who want to take something home can choose from the available dishes, giving priority to those with larger quantities left.
– Who receives the Box?
. The Gün Box is available to all participants. However, it is recommended to set priorities based on expressed preferences to ensure that everyone
gets what they want.
– Personalizing the Box:
. Each Box can be labeled with the recipient’s name and, if possible, a brief note about the dish included (e.g., the name and the main ingredient).
. For the most popular dishes, smaller portions can be created so that everyone has a chance to taste them.
The Gün Box is not only a way to avoid waste but also a gesture of care that extends the pleasure of the GÜN, transforming a special moment into a memory to share.
