Chimarrão is a hot, culturally significant drink from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, made by brewing powdered maté leaves with hot water. Traditionally, it’s served in a gourd called a cuia and consumed through a metal straw known as a bomba, symbolizing community and tradition. In our design, we propose a solution that combines functionality and tradition: a thermos to keep the water hot, a compartment to store maté powder, and a brewing section that connects seamlessly through a rotating mechanism with a lid. Additionally, the bomba straw can double as a handle, enhancing convenience and portability. Our design is made of stainless steel and offers two different design options. One is wood coated and the other is pure metallic without any intervention to make it more natural.
Hello, I am Yüksel Ali Çevrük, a 4th year student at METU Industrial Design. I use both of my names, you can use whichever is easier for you. I have been living in Ankara since I was born. I chose this department because making models, disassembling and assembling things are among my biggest hobbies rather than product design. Then I realized that I made the right decision by choosing this department. One of the things I like most about the department right now is regularly developing new ideas, bringing these ideas to life, and having people test them. Making both digital and physical models is extremely enjoyable for me. That's why I start having more fun in class after a certain point. I do many sports outside of the department. My current goal is to join the school's frisbee team. But other than that, I also play tennis, basketball and billiards very often. I am also quite ambitious in billiards. I look forward to seeing those who are in Turkey or who are coming to play.
