The Word Wide Collaborative Studio

Hello,everyone

Hello, I am Wang Yu, studying in Shandong University of Art&Design, from shandong Qingdao, my hobby is playing chess, and some difficult movements, such as skiing, paragliders, scuba diving, etc., but some haven’t achieved, I believe I can finish my wish in the future, I also like to travel, experience different landscape culture and human feelings.
Now I major in product design, and I like my major very much. I believe I can be an excellent designer in the future.
I am a serious person to do things, but there will be some slow heat, but I will also with a warm and sincere heart to help others.
Through this project, I believe we can have a good cooperation and hope to become friends of different countries.

The Perfect Gift

The Perfect Gift by Team 11 was a really exciting product and is the perfect gift indeed to get to know family and friends on another level! Shown in the clip is a fun advertisement we thought would fit the concept of the game made by Design League and we’re so happy with the result!

Evaluation Boards for Team 11

We have finally finished our evaluation boards for The Perfect Gift, for our fellow designers Team 11. Here are the final looks! We had a great time, even with the obstacles and hope they had the same too^^

Brevimento!!!

It is our final project called Brevimento as Team Tree Rex. While we are preparing the project, we tried to integrate Brazilian culturel values like dances into it. We hope that our collaborator team will have fun!!!

Both Teams Share Their Games!!!

In this meeting, Team 11 (Design League Team) and Team 18 (Team Tree Rex) shared their final design concepts to each other.

Firstly, Team 11 showed and explained us their final Project. It is a perfect game for people to know each other. This game is comprised of 50 cards which were categorized based on their difficulty levels. For instance, while “This or That?” and “It’s True?” questions provide you 1 point, “Best…” and “What…” questions provide you 3 points, if you predict your friend’s answers correctly. We’re really looking forward to playing this game as Team Tree Rex. Thanks,Design League Team!!!

Perfect Gift

Secondly, we showed our final project called “Brevimento” which is directly related to difficulty of mobility concept. It is a multifunctional game which consists of physical and mental parts. If seniors want to improve their physical health, they can choose dance away part which has samba and carimbo options (Brazilian traditional dances). If they want to improve their mental skills, they can select challenge your mind part which has tangram and sudoku options. We hope that Design League Team like this game.

Preparing Design Brief

After meeting at the beginning of this week, we worked on the detailed version of the design brief that we’re going to send to Team 11. We detailed step by step about the usage of our service and we decided that what elements should we include in our games.

We are looking forward to finishing the design brief and sending it to the Brazil team in this week!!!

Getting started on the detailed design process

Till the end of this week, having sorted out the final decisions with our clients, we wanted to get the idea designed to the last detail. We started with the basics of what will be an interactive digital platform for the elderly to socialize and get exercise done in their homes. Of course the product is not just a digital platform, which would have been far from ideal for the people who are used to interacting with the tangible world.

The main points we will be focusing on will be to design a service that will give them the most comfortable experience with actual results!

Progress Update

After tracking back a step to see a wider problem area, we came up with three initial ideas for our client’s brief.

The first one is a home exercise unit to help the elders exercise with ease from the comforts of their home.

The second one is a packing organization to help the elders avoid forgetting all kinds of stuff when they’re packing.

Last but not least, our third idea is a multifunctional game platform that encourages the elders to bond and spend time with their loved ones at the comforts of their home too. It is very interactive and has an “online” feature so they can play with their loved ones that are miles away from them during this pandemic.

Idea Generation

This week, after a meeting with Team 11, we have changed the spesifications on the brief to provide us a wider problem area. After this we decided to recede back to think over spesific problems to solve.

After that we set up a meeting with our group to get back on track and start think about design ideas. Overall, we had a fruitful week and made some progress! :3

Meeting with Team Design League!!!

In this week, we met with Team Design League (our collaborator team) and we shared our design processes with each other. It means, which solutions we tried to find for our design problems. For example, we talked about, what we researched for new thoughts and which design methods we used to explain our initial ideas such as preparing persona or moodboard. Then, we listened our collaborator team’s interesting design thoughts like mobile applications based on their personas’ needs and they tried to explain how it can be used. Finally, both teams tried to give lots of positive/negative feedback for the next design steps.

To put it simply, The Global Design Studio is going well!!!

Research About Product and Moodboard

After analyzing and talking with each other about Team 11’s brief, we decided to do some research about the product and find current issues for our persona. We took notes on what we should consider after the research. Finally, we detailed our persona and prepared a moodboard.

Meeting about Team 11’s Brief

After Team 11 sent their brief to us, we got together and discussed about the topic that they gave to us. We planned our schedule for next meetings and we agreed on that using Miroboard for our next stages would be helpful. We done some research together and after doing individual research and initial ideas on the subject, we decided to meet again.

We’re looking forward to meet Team 11 and get feedback for our initial ideas in this week 🙂

Our design brief

This is the design brief for the Brazilian team: Design League.

We’re centering our focus on adults who have difficulties finding gifts for younger generations on special occasions. We hope the Brazilian team can meet our expectations with the given brief and we’re super excited to see the result!

Meeting with Team 11

Meeting with Team 11 on Discord

Last week, we were very excited and happy because we met our paired team members who participate in Global Studio from Brazil. Firstly, we introduced ourselves, we tried to pronounce our names😊 and we mentioned about our countries.

Secondly, we talked about the topic of the project called “Gifting Happiness”. We shared our ideas and we tried to understand our perspectives and feelings about gifting happiness. Then, we decided to show our design brief which included some titles such as expected goals, design requirements and the guidelines to learn their comments and suggestions. Thanks to the feedback, we reviewed the design brief.

Finally, we can say that we communicate with Team 11 easily and this situation is very important for our next meetings and project’s phases!!!

Completing the Brief

Adding the information on the brief

After we were able to contact and schedule a meeting with Team 11, our collaborator team, we decided to get going and complete the brief. We met on Discord again and screen shared to create an online platform to communicate ideas just as if we were working on the same table.

Our findings should convey the research and consideration behind the object in the brief. Hoping we succeeded in this, we are looking forward to get feedback from Team 11!

Preparing the first brief draft

Group meeting on Discord

For the past week, we have met with our group members on Discord several times to make the necessary decisions on the brief draft. We try to bring joyful visuals to our designs and make sure we all enjoy the process as much as we hope we will enjoy the final product.

Keeping the design language and coming up with the requirements take time and effort on our part since this is the first brief draft we have prepared. Yet, we are happy with the results! Hope our friends and collaborators from Brazil will find the brief helpful and thorough as well.

Hai Halo Hei

Hello!! My name is Viona Timotius and I’m a fourth-year exchange student at METU under the Indonesian International Student Mobility Award (IISMA). Was previously majoring in Visual Communication Design, I’m now studying Industrial Design in ODTÜ. Born and raised in the most populated city in Southeast Asia, Life’s pace is pretty different from here in Ankara, Turkey, where I currently reside. Back home, I love driving around the city, and coffee shop-hopping is one of my favorite thing to do. I wish to do the same here in Ankara.

In my free time, I like having movie marathons as well as illustrating for my small business where I design and illustrate stuff I’m fond of. I grew up with sticker books and collecting stickers was one of my favorite childhood memory and to be the one illustrating them and making someone’s day through stickers makes me feel whole. Sometimes you can find me trying out new things like embroidering, trying out analog cameras, and streaming gameplays to people. These are the things that piqued my interest and I like them as a hobby.

You can get in touch with me through my social media as I’m always on my phone. My Instagram is @vionatimotius and @helloviona if you’re interested to see my works.

Jakarta, Indonesia
It’s me 😀

Hello, Ilgaz here!

Hi! I’m Cemre Ilgaz, though I go by Ilgaz mostly. Im a fourth year Industrial Design student in METU. I live in Ankara currently, in the capital city of Turkey. I enjoy my life here, a lovely city with four blaring seasons and countless activities and places to attend. You would be surprised how many curious little things are hidden beneath the layers of the city.

Some of my favourite things in the world is to experience other cultures, to co-exist and become aware in that moment how similar yet different we are as people. Feeling one with the world, but still a stranger… This is one of the reasons I wanted to take this course, to interact with people from diverse backgrounds.

Other than the time spent on school assignments and projects, I like to keep busy and always have personal projects going on. My hobbies include art/illustrations, hand crafts like knitting and sewing, and creating whatever inspires me at the time! I do not put a definition on what I do, if it makes me feel happy or hyped up, I dive in. Below are some of my recent artworks and a little bit of me, for you to get to know me better.

I believe magic and excitement can be found anywhere and for anyone as long as we wish to find it.

Gülşah Şimşek

Hello!!! My name is Gülşah Şimşek which is a difficult name to pronounce for foreign students, I know😊. I’m third-year student from the department of Industrial Design at Middle East Technical University which we say ODTÜ in Turkey. I live in Ankara for many years. I have a parrot whose name is Çarşı. I cannot say that I’m a bookworm but I like reading philosophy books especially Schopenhauer’s. I like also listening to classical music (my favourite is Rahmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2 in C Minor, Op.18).

If we talk about why I wanted to be a part of Global Studio, the main reason is to meet international students and understand their design perceptions. I hope, we will have a good experience for our professional lives with Global Studio. Have a good semester!!!

This me from the first year at METU

My chess set project which was made from soap

This is me!!

Heyy, I’m Deniz Küçük, I’m a 3rd-year industrial design student at Middle East Technical University. I’m living in Ankara, Turkey. Ankara is the capital city of the country. So, there are many government institutions in the city. And, the city is really cold in winters.

I really like going to some small coffee shops in Tunalı, the upper part of Ankara, especially when the snow comes into the town, seeing swans in the famous park in Tunalı makes me really happy.

I’m currently interested in analog photography. And, I really have enjoyed watching and talking about festival movies ( which can be boring sometimes for most people 🙂 ) So, I want to get involved in the film industry for my future plans, maybe I can advance in a field where cinema and design are common.
