initial ideas

hey you all! we’ve just discussed ideas during our class and we’re sending you right now!

This proposal is to design a functional and portable product, consisting of a small wheeled trolley and a modular storage case that holds all accessories required for the ritual (tea, sugar, cups, heating tools, towels, and other traditional elements). The idea is to make it easy to transport the samovar to different places — parks, cultural gatherings, tourism events, and travel situations — while keeping all items organized and protected. The focus is on combining tradition with mobility, allowing the ritual to happen anywhere without losing its authenticity.

The idea is to create an educational material — such as a booklet, brochure, QR-based digital guide, mini exhibition, or catalog — specifically targeted at tourists who are unfamiliar with the cultural meaning of the samovar. It would explain its origin, history, function, evolution, regional variations, the social ritual around it, and relevant curiosities. The goal is to transform the samovar from a merely exotic object observed by visitors into a fully understood and valued cultural experience, encouraging an attitude of respect, curiosity, and mindful participation.

The idea is to develop a cultural campaign mainly aimed at Turkish citizens, reinforcing the emotional and historical value of the samovar ritual. The campaign could use narratives related to collective memory, national identity, family gatherings, and the preservation of traditions in a modern context. The goal is to inspire cultural pride, intergenerational continuity, and ongoing practice of the ritual not only as nostalgia, but as a living expression of community.

note: its our group ideas, our professor oriented us to come up with ideas as a group!

Hello, we’d like to share our feedback in two parts. First, the product needs to function more like an organizer. Instead of being as large and heavy as the one in your drawing, it should act as a compact box that stores tea, sugar, and cups alongside the samovar—but not necessarily attached to it. The current scale makes it difficult to carry and doesn’t align well with the samovar’s use.

Second, we’re having trouble understanding the graphic direction because there is no drawing or visual reference. It’s really challenging to evaluate without a visual. As the client, we believe that we need to have a drawing/layout of the design in order to give feedback, so the second and third ideas are not very acceptable. So we kindly ask you to share a layout/template.

As we discussed in last week’s meeting, creating a poster or billboard design that promotes Samaver could be a useful visual design tool to guide the process and make things easier for both sides.

To move forward efficiently, we’d like to set a deadline for the revised initial ideas: Friday 18.00 (Brazil time).

Hi there! I’m Giulia from team 19. I really enjoyed reading your group’s initial ideas — they show a thoughtful balance between functionality, cultural value, and communication. The portable samovar trolley is a smart way to make the ritual accessible in different contexts, while the educational material for tourists adds depth and helps people appreciate more than just the object itself. The cultural campaign aimed at Turkish citizens also feels meaningful, as it reinforces the emotional and historical dimension of the ritual. If you’re looking for additional inspiration on the cultural significance of the samovar, this paper might be useful: https://www.o-cha.net/english/conference2/pdf/2007/files/PROC/MI-P-205.pdf

These three concepts are very well articulated and show a clear understanding of both the cultural and functional dimensions of the samovar ritual. The portable trolley proposal is especially strong in how it connects tradition with practical mobility, while the educational material and cultural campaign effectively address two different audiences with complementary goals. Overall, the group demonstrates solid teamwork and a thoughtful approach to preserving cultural heritage in contemporary contexts.
