Final Decision on Revised Proposals

Hello Team01!
We went through all of your well-thought design proposals. We must say that they are all effective solutions, and we really like them. We’d like to give an overall feedback to your design ideas. It might sound a little bit repetitive sorry for that.
For proposal 1, we admire the storyboard, and technical drawings, 3D modelings. Some of the key problem areas with this design are mechanism clarity, portability.
For proposal 2, again with the clear modeling, and storyboard, we were able to follow up the product, and its usage. This is the one which really connects with us. Its portability, and lock mechanism are easy-to-understand. It is a perfect match for elderly people to carry.
For proposal 3, again thank you for your clear 3d modeling. We really appreciate how much time you put for us to understand through digital tools. We really like the portability, and size of the product.

We thought you only posted 2 design proposals, we didn’t know there would be 3, sorry for that. We examined the last proposal as well thoroughly. Once again, we would like to thank you for your hard work, and effort you devoted in this project, we really appreaciate it. All of your design ideas are remarkable.

The project we’d like to move on is proposal 2, although all of them are really beneficial and well-designed. The design, size, portability are really suitable for elderly. It is easy to use. It is well-thought also for stray animals.
Again thank you for all your designs , and contribution.

Minimum Pension in Turkey

Hi Team01!
In our meeting, you asked about minimum pension in Turkey, so this post is regarding to that question.
The minimum monthly retirement pension in Turkey is 14,469 TRY, equals to approximately 2,430 CNY.

If you ask me, most of retired old people getting this pension have difficulties in sense of affording their daily needs, rents if they dont own a flat.

1-Bedroom Apartment (Outside City Center): The rent for a modest apartment outside a city center can start around 13,000−15,000 TRY and go much higher, depending on the city and district.

The Reality: If a retiree has to pay market-rate rent, the 14,469 TRY minimum pension is almost entirely consumed by rent alone, leaving virtually nothing for food, utilities, or medicine.

The elderly who survive on this income are likely homeowners (having paid off their mortgage) or live in highly subsidized housing, with family, or in smaller, rural towns where costs are much lower.

It might go like if a retiree owns a place, or do not have to pay any rent:

Utilities (Basic) = ∼2,000−2,500 TRY (Electric, water, gas)
Monthly Transport Pass = ∼1,000−1,300 TRY (For major cities)

Basic Groceries/Food = (For a single, frugal person)
NET REMAINING = ∼1,669−3,669 TRY

The minimum pension of 14,469 TRY allows for a very basic, subsistence-level existence only if the major expense of rent is completely eliminated (through home ownership or family support).

That being said, Turkey has been facing with high inflation rates, leading to high prices. Most of the people have difficulties affording their basic needs, not only elderly unfortunately.

If you have any further questions please let us know.

What happens when some irresponsible people left the feeding boxes on the streets

While people think they do good, it might hurt some other sides too. For example, some other old people who still have to work as janitor etc. They have to clean those plates after some other old people left them. It is kind of a dilemma actually, but this problem might even be another brief topic. Though there are some people to clean after themselves.
Anyway it is not really related to the our brief, but i wanted to share this cultural aspect as well.

The Items Elderly Often Gives Food With

Hey guys! This is an follow-up post regarding to my answer on the brief. I’m attaching photos of the products elderly find at their houses to give food to stray animals.

1-EPS trays

Two large adult stray dogs get food in the winter.

For example these are some plates made of EPS. In Turkey, when you buy meat/chicken etc from supermarket’s butcher, they give the food item on these trays. Most of the people, in this case elderly wash them, store them, and when they want to give food the strays, they use these. However this might cause some pollutions on the streets, since they have no protection bacteria can grow on the food.

2-Yoghurt Buckets

Yoghurt is an essential food for Turkish people. People buy yoghurt all the time and they wash the cups, and store them. When they want to feed to animals they use them. Since it is plastic, it might cause some problems like bad mouth hygiene in animals, pollution on streets, easy to be dislocated due to weather conditions or external human factors.
