Gender and Design Concept Brief
Project Name: Gifting Happiness
Client/Team Name: Team 13
WHY we need this project: Making life more convenient for working people. Target Audience: Age group- 25-30 (working life) full time job and 65+
Goals: The goal is to make it easier for people with busy schedules to communicate with
their older family members at home, as older family members might have difficulties using
technology like smartphones, tablets etc.
Product ideas: A tracker that is linked to phone via app to keep an eye on older family
member? Since they can’t be home 24/7 to look after family.
Maybe a device that links to mobile app so the older family member can click on a button on
the device which will notify the family member that they are okay/safe as older person might
have problems using technology
Problems / Challenges – Low battery? Rechargeable? Does it require internet connection?
The size of the tracker, is it too small that it might get lost? Can it be wearable?
What would an ideal outcome look like for this project?
For working people to be able to work without stress and having to worry about the safety of
their family members. Make life more convenient for everyone.

Hello Pui Sum Sammi, thank you for sharing your client team’s brief for your assigned Design Team 24. I would like to suggest that any activities you do as Client you should post these onto your assigned Designer Team project blog which is hear https://theglobalstudio.eu/2022-24/
Can you do this by creating a new post https://theglobalstudio.eu/2022-24/wp-admin/post-new.php and placing posting the above brief there, please?
Your brief should be based on information you have gathered from your grandparents who will represented the users for this project. This means that you and your team members will need to gather information from your grandparents about activities you would like your design teams to explore.
Thus to develop the brief you will need to prepare material, such as storyboards or short movies, which will help your design team to become familiar with your selected users’ day to day local practices. You, as the cultural expert on your selected users’ practices will need to analyse these practices in order to guide the designers and to evaluate their progress.
Should the family members who you would like to connect and communicate with the grandparents be the grandchildren (that is you) OR their children (these are your parents) OR both grandchildren and children? Either way you will also need to provide information about these user to your designers.
I can see that you have decided about very specific items that should be considered, but you have not outlined the contexts so the designers have no idea for whom they are designing and why. I am not sure if you have managed to attend today’s talk by Barbara, but she has outlined what you may consider to make sense of the users…
Can you please get together with your team members to rethink your brief, please?
thank you, Erik
