In all three of my designs, I thought about creating protection barriers that can be integrated into the pot in which they cook, following the scenario that an elderly individual does not want to wear anything extra while eating.
In my first design, a spacer recommended being attached when the pan is in the frying stage will hold a product that would provide a safe space between a pan and a person. In addition, that spacer can change color according to temperature differences. The color difference will help to warn that person to emphasize, “ be careful; the pan is hot right now.” that might help stay away from the pan when it reaches boiling level.
My second design was to add a shield to the handle. This way, splashing oils will hit an additional barrier until they reach the person’s arm to provide protection. The form of the shield is inclined so that the cook can see the inside of the pot.
Finally, the third idea is foldable arm protection equipment that can be attached to the handle of the frying pan. After this equipment is attached to the handle, a second adjustable barrier prevents the oil from splashing even if the person approaches the pan. Thanks to its foldable feature, it takes up less space in the kitchen.

Hello Team 15! I have 2 different design proposal for you.
- In my first design, I offer grandmothers an upgraded kitchen apron. That kitchen apron has its sleeves and gloves. Sleeves and glover are removable according to the needs, if only one hand is directed to cooking experience, other sleeve can be removed.
- In the second design, I think about a different application. This design is not a tool to use, but it is a new implementation that changes the kitchen. The idea behind it is to stay away from the bench because of its shape of it.
Here are my sketches! Please do not hesitate to ask questions if you have any!
When Chinese families cook, the temperature of the pot will be very high. The first solution is not suitable. I think the second solution can be more in-depth.
Jiawen thank you for providing a brief feedback.
How high is the oil tempeture?
Can you elaborate on why do you think the second solution is better?
How would you like the designers to proceed?
Erik
The oil temperature is about 120 ~ 180 °C.
